Your Story – Frank Rennie
I am struck with the sounds of different storms. Each storm has its own melody and percussion. It is not necessarily the noisiest storms that are the most violent, and every islander knows those sudden silences in the middle of a gale that stop you in your tracks with anticipation and dread for what may about to happen next. The different island locations have their own variations, as the wind causes whistling in fence-wire and the rattling of … well everything. Storms can be exhilarating as well as exhausting, awesome, as well as awful, and part of the reason that some particular storms sear themselves into your memory is the unique combination of sounds that accompany the rise and fall, the changes of direction, the climax and the eventual conclusion of the storm event.
